Bear Camp Road System Closed Due to Taylor Creek Fire Activity - Sunday, August 5th, 2:15pm

Southwest OR – The Bear Camp Road system and Burnt Ridge Road (FS 2308) is currently closed to public use due to active fire behavior and fire suppression efforts associated with the Taylor Creek Fire.

More specifically, the Bear Camp Road (FS 23) is closed from Agness to the forest boundary near Galice on National Forest system administered lands and the Burnt Ridge Road is closed in its entirety. Additional closures on the Bear Camp Road are also in place for the Medford District of the Bureau of Land Management and Josephine County.

There are also closures along the Recreation section of the Rogue River and at BLM recreation sites and boat ramps. Visitors are encouraged to contact the Southwest Oregon Joint Information Center at (541) 474-5305 or BLM river permit staff at (541) 479-3735 for more details on the full extent of the road and recreation closures.

The Bear Camp Road and Burnt Ridge Road closures will be in effect until the risk to travelers is lifted. Bear Camp Road is the most common route traveled for the shuttle drivers for Wild and Scenic Lower Rogue River rafters, providing a shorter alternative to the Highway 199-to-Highway 101 route.

All federal, state and county partners recognize the economic impact of the fire and closures to the businesses and local community.  Staff are coordinating with the numerous permitted outfitters and guides and are working diligently to re-open areas as soon as possible, while keeping public and firefighter safety as the first priority.
