WEATHER
Isolated thunderstorms are in the forecast for this afternoon and evening, and the main axis of activity will be similar to the past few days...from western Siskiyou county east into Modoc county and northeast into Klamath and Lake counties. Highs will be near 15 degrees above normal over the west side and 5-10 degrees above normal east of the Cascades. The west side may cool a few degrees after Thursday, but highs will remain 10-15 degrees above normal with the exception of the Umpqua Basin, where increasing marine influence will bring a bit more cooling.
SMOKE Fires across SW Oregon and NW California are expected to remain active, producing the most amount of smoke in the mid to late afternoon. Fire activity is expected to increase either due to natural fire growth or burnouts.
Poor air quality conditions persist throughout the region, ranging from unhealthy at the northern extent to moderate at the southern end. As fire activity increases, air quality is expected to deteriorate.
Cleaner air locations during the afternoon include the Oregon coast north of Gold Beach, I-5 corridor between Canyonville to Roseburg, and coastal areas south of Eureka California. Large fires have developed across N. California and have increased smoke collection during the overnight across the northern Sacramento Valley.
