Bear Camp Road Closure

September 8, 2018 - Bear Camp Road Closure

September 7, 2018 - Bear Camp Road Closure

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to fire suppression activities on the #KlondikeFire, beginning at noon on Saturday, September 8, 2018, Bear Camp Road will be closed to all non-fire traffic and will remain closed until the road is determined to be safe for public traffic.
A Forest Closure Order issued by the Rogue River – Siskiyou National Forest describes the closure as:
Bear Camp Road (Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management road 23) closed from the intersection at the Merlin-Galice Road (Josephine County Road #2400 and #2401) west to the intersection with Forest Service Road 33 near Agness.
The Cooperators’ Group for the Klondike Fire, including Rogue River – Siskiyou National Forest staff, Curry County officials, local law enforcement, emergency management staff, and the Southern Area Red Incident Management Team, with careful consideration of the economic impacts to the local communities, evaluated alternative means to allow a safe flow of traffic. Ultimately the group decided there was a much higher probability for a successful tactical firing operation with a complete road closure. This will allow firefighters space to work safely, as well as keeping their focus on fire suppression.
The decision was made to close the road beginning at noon tomorrow and ending when the road is determined to be safe for public travel. We will implement all measures to make this closure as short as possible. The safety of our firefighters and the public is our primary focus.
